Ice-covered Chisinau streets and sidewalks cause victims

The Chisinau Ambulance Service reported a record number of calls from persons who suffered traumas and fractures yesterday and last night. The rain and low temperatures transformer the streets and sidewalks in Chisinau into a skating rink. The pedestrians encounter most of the difficulties when moving on the icy surfaces. Anatol Proca, coordinating doctor at the Chisinau Ambulance Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the ambulance teams dealt with 134 cases of traumas received when falling on the ice. Children were involved in 23 cases of these. A 66-year-old man runs the risk of remaining blind. He injured his eyes with sulfuric acid in the chemical laboratory of the thermoelectric plan CET-2. A man aged 20 got poisoned with carbon monoxide in a fire that broke out in a rented apartment. A homeless woman aged 61 was taken from Tighina St to the Emergency Hospital with general hypothermia. A man in his 50s was discovered in an alcoholic coma on Alecu Russo St. Yesterday and last night, the Chisinau Ambulance Service recorded 809 calls, dealing with 103 cases of acute viral infection, one case of flu, four strokes and 134 cases of traumas - two times more than on ordinary days.
