The presidential elections of this year could cost the 2016 state budget about 100 million lei if the second round of voting is eventually held. A sum of 62 million lei will be spent on holding the first round of voting.
The 62 million lei will be used to organize the work of electoral bodies, namely the electoral district councils and electoral offices of polling places. The budget also envisions costs for typographical services, which is the printing of all the electoral documents, such as proceedings, electoral lists and ballots.
The electoral budget will also go on transport, stationery and salaries of persons who will be involved in ensuring the election process. Also, 2.5 million lei is allocated for training.
The cap on the financial resources that can be transferred to the “Electoral Fund” account of the runners in this year’s presidential elections is 65.7 million lei. The sum is determined by multiplying the coefficient of 0.5% of the average official salary for the previous year by the number of voters. Both private individuals and legal entities can transfer money to this account. The private individuals can donate money in cash or can transfer money in the amount of up to 200 average salaries, while the legal entities – of up to 400 annual average salaries.
