Moldova's Acting President Mihai Ghimpu made official assurances that the Moldovan society in 2010 will not be thrown into a new election campaign. He said this in his New Year message to the Moldovan people, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Mihai Ghimpu, 2009 marks the end of a whole epoch in Moldova's history - the epoch of the Communist dictatorship. We leave behind a dark past and head for a European future together. This year, we managed to make a great change and bring the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) to power. The change was possible owing to the wish of the largest part of the Moldovan people expressed in the July 29 elections, due to extraordinary efforts and the April 7 sacrifice of the young people for free and democratic elections. Ghimpu said that in the July 29 elections, the people empowered the AEI to govern the country. “We aim to eliminate any form of dictatorship and establish democracy and the state of law in all the areas of activity. Most of the Moldovan people are in favor of European integration. “There are forces that want to stop the democratic reforms and the country's integration into Europe by throwing Moldova into a new election campaign. I assure you that this will not happen as You decided in favor of a change. It is time that we solve the real problems faced by the Moldovan people such as poverty, unemployment, corruption, migration of the labor force so as to improve every person's life,” Mihai Ghimpu said. He also said that the change brought Moldova unprecedented political and financial support from the European Union, the United States, the international organizations. “This support is due to the fact that the AEI acted efficiently in the Parliament, Government and the Presidential Office, adopted democratic decisions and laws aimed at ensuring stability, social peace and good neighborhood relations and at honoring the state's financial obligations to the people.” Mihai Ghimpu said the government set realistic objectives for improving the living standards, including developing a European education system, a health system that will serve the people's interests, fairer pension and salary systems, reforming and modernizing the state administration, rooting out corruption and bureaucracy in all the state institutions, controlling and monitoring the management of public money. “Talks on the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU will open in January. The agreement will allow the Moldovan people to travel freely in Europe,” the acting head of state said.
