Hyde Park NGO pickets Russian Embassy over human rights in Transnistria

The Hyde Park NGO picketed on Friday the Russian Embassy in Chisinau, calling for respect for human rights in the Transnistrian region and the withdrawal of Russian troops from Moldovan territory as well as avoidance of cases of torture in this region, Info-Prim Neo reports. Hyde Park representatives said their intention was to draw public attention to the problems experienced by over 300,000 citizens of the Republic of Moldova on the eastern bank of the Nistru. The organization is demanding the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the Transnistrian region of Moldova, accusing Russia of supporting a criminal regime which commits frequent human rights violations. “We also intend to find out more about the conditions in which our people are detained in police stations, in prisons. We demand respect for our citizens' rights not only in Transnistria, but also in the Russian Federation, since there is a great number of Moldovans working there”, says Hyde Park member Ghenadie Brega. According to Hyde Park, the Moldovan authorities should declare the Russian ambassador persona non-grata because the country he represents fails to respect its commitments and encourages the illegalities of the Transnistrian regime.
