Hyde Park demands explanations from Chisinau authorities

Several members of the NGO Hyde Park protested on Monday, March 14, outside the City Hall, demanding official explanations as to the interruption of protests on March 11, the date of the US Vice President Joe Biden’s visit in Chisinau. Hyde Park referred to the Pinzaru family, whose protest was forbidden and their tent near the Government building was removed, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We think this is against the law. According to both internal and international legislation, the right to expression, to public assemblies and actions is inalienable. Even if some foreign guests come to Moldova, that doesn’t mean protests must be stopped”, said Ghenadie Brega, member of Hyde Park Association. They say the Pinzarus had been legally and peacefully protesting for 8 months until their action was forbidden and their tent removed. It happened on March 11, the same day the US Vice President came to Chisinau. Hyde Park demands that, regardless of official visits to Chisinau, public manifestations are not forbidden. On the day of Joe Biden’s visit, several public actions were not allowed.
