Ambassador of Hungary Gyorgy Varga is ending his diplomatic mission in the Republic of Moldova. On this occasion, the official presented at a Wednesday press conference a report on his work and on the activity of the Common Application Center, which offers visas to 15 EU member states, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Moldova is part of my life. Its society is friendly, peaceful and intelligent. Moldova's accession to the EU will once be possible due to these factors as well. I advise the government of Moldova to stick to the chosen path”, the diplomat stated. Gyorgy Varga stressed the fact that despite the economic crisis, trade between Moldova and Hungary increased by 325% and by the end of 2011 it amounted to $136 million. Asked by Info-Prim Neo if Moldova could enjoy a liberalized visa regime with the EU by the end of 2012, as previously promised by a number of Moldovan officials, Gyorgy Varga said that he can not make any accurate estimates, but the fact that Moldova has met the first package of conditions required by the EU proves that the policies implemented by the Moldovan government are efficient. Regarding the activity of the Common Application Center, the ambassador said that visas for Greece, Hungary, Austria, Holland and Belgium are the most in demand. Moldova's President Nicolae Timofti conferred the Order of Honor on Ambassador Gyorgy Varga in recognition of his “significant contribution to the development and enhancement of friendship and cooperation between Moldova and Hungary”.
