Hungarian Ambassador Mihaly Bayer completes diplomatic mission in Moldova

The Ambassador of Hungary Mihaly Bayer is completing his diplomatic mission in Moldova after 13 months of activity. The official was recalled to Budapest to take up the post of Hungary’s Ambassador with Special Missions within the Nabucco gas pipeline project as from April 1, 2008, Info-Prim Neo reports. The ambassador will leave Moldova this weekend. The name of his successor has not been made public yet. According to Mihaly Bayer, a new ambassador to Moldova will most probably be named in the second half of May. Until then, consultant Botond Zakonyi will hold the post on an interim basis. At a news conference on March 26, the Hungarian ambassador spoke about the main activities carried out by the Hungarian Embassy while he was in office in Moldova. He said that the most important project is the opening of the first EU Common Visa Application Center in Europe. According to Bayer, the Center has accepted about 1,250 applications for visas by now. Approximately 40% of the total number of applicants asked visas for Hungary, 30% for Austria and about 14 % for Latvia. Mihaly Bayer said that from April 7, the Center will issue visas for Sweden. Intense talks are now conducted with Norway, Cyprus and Luxembourg. According to the cited source, the EU Common Visa Application Center plays a major role in Moldova’s relations with the European Union. The official said that when he departs, Hungary will not interrupt the cooperation with Moldova and will continue to provide assistance and to help Moldova find the best solutions that would bring it closer to the EU.
