Hundreds of people taking part in National Wine Day festivities

Wines from all the regions of the country were presented and tasted at the tenth National Wine Day that is celebrated this year at the international exhibitions center “Moldexpo”. Dozens of people went to the opening of the event to taste wines exhibited by 54 wine companies. “Romanesti” SA was awarded the Top Prize in Winemaking for 2011, Info-Prim Neo reports. The four geographical indications of Moldova were presented on Saturday, October 8, for the first time. These are “Vadul lui Traian” − the wines made in southern Moldova, “Stefan Voda” − in the southeast of the country, “Codru” − in central Moldova, and “Balti” − in the north of the country. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov said that this day is important not only because it is the tenth event of the kind, but also because Moldova is on the brink of a reform. He stressed that when the National Vine and Wine Agency is created, the wine industry will be better administered. He also said that the project of the European Investment Bank will help revitalize this strategic sector for Moldova. “We congratulate all those who grow grapes and make our special wine from them. It is the product that contains most of Moldovan soul,” said the minister. Attending the event, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said during the last ten years Moldova went through good and bad times. “But we managed to maintain the quality of the Moldovan wines and the prospects of developing this sector. The Moldovan wine conveys the feeling of friendship to other countries,” he said, adding that the excise duties and excise stamps put on wine will be annulled from next year. Constantin Sarghi, the director of the company “Romanesti” SA, said that it is easy and difficult to produce wine in Moldova because everyone knows how to make it. “I thank all the over 1,200 colleagues of mine. I wish the wine made in Romanesti to be eternal,” he stated. The National Wine Day will last for two days. On October 9, a number of ministers will show how to choose wines for the traditional dishes. The Wine Day is also celebrated at the Chisinau International Airport, where the passengers are met with Moldovan wine and dishes. This way, the airport’s administration aims to promote the Moldovan culture and traditions among the foreigners visiting Moldova.
