Chair of the Humanist Party of Moldova (PUM) Ion Mereuta is set to run for mayor of Chisinau in the upcoming local elections, scheduled for June 3. The vice-chairman of the party, Alexandru Arsene, has made this decision public at a news conference today. Mereuta said PUM decided to field own candidates for mayors and local councillors, specifying that the candidates are well-known personalities with great experience and professional accomplishments. The PUM leader says he pleads for a healthy and clean city, mentioning that the Chisinau municipality is currently confronting with severe problems in these fields. At the same news conference Oleg Oniscenco, the chairman of the Association of Chisinau Residents “Our Home-Chisinau”, announced he will participate in elections along with the Humanist Party, being the second on the list of the councillors proposed by PUM. At present, nearly 10 political parties announced their readiness to field candidates for mayor of Chisinau.
