Human Dignity Week at Leova Boarding School

Before the International Children's Day, the Leova-based Boarding School held the Human Dignity Week. The students learned their rights and obligations and wrote essays on the topic and on other subjects they wanted. The most interesting works were awarded during a press visit to the school, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Calalb, president of the Organization for the Reformation and Development of the Education System (ORDES), said the Human Dignity Week included a number of training seminars involving the Action Groups that consisted of boarding school and high school students and young teachers. The seminars centered on the designing and management of community projects and methods of mobilizing the community. The event aims to involve the young leaders in the identification of the problems faced by the settlement or school, mobilization of community to resolve these problems and in cultivating civic activism in the people, said Mihai Calalb. The students of the Leova-based Boarding School were also engaged in projects to clean the areas adjoining the schools, community charity events, and different contests. There was held an interschool competition on human rights. The Human Dignity Week forms part of the Human Rights Education in Boarding Schools of Moldova Project that is implemented by the ORDES in schools in Leova, Straseni and Ungheni. It is supported by the Academy for Educational Development through the U.S. Agency for International Development. Among the project's partners are Amnesty International and the Resource Center for Human Rights.
