Sparkling wine is a staple on the holiday tables of most Moldovans. For this reason, the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) has issued a series of recommendations, IPN reports.
Whether choosing sparkling wine or semi-sparkling wine, effervescent wines are classified into the following categories: sparkling wine, quality sparkling wine, aromatic quality sparkling wine, semi-sparkling wine, pétillant wine, and perlant wine.
According to ANSA, an important factor in selecting an effervescent wine is the sugar content. Sparkling wines are classified by sugar concentration as brut nature, extra brut, brut, extra dry, dry, semi-dry, and semi-sweet, while perlant wines are classified as dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, and sweet.
ANSA advises consumers to pay attention to the sugar content in effervescent beverages and opt for sparkling wines with low sugar levels, no more than 12 g/dm³ (brut nature, extra brut, brut).
When opening the bottle, it should be rotated in a circular motion, focusing on twisting the bottle itself rather than the cork, contrary to common practice.
In addition to these recommendations, food safety specialists urge consumers to purchase effervescent wines only from authorized outlets and to choose clear wines without impurities or sediment.
