How similar are Moldovans and Italians? The answer of an Italian businessman

Although we are two different nations, there are areas in Italy that are culturally very similar to Moldovans, said Piero Leone, an Italian businessman, in an interview for IPN.

Originally from Piedmont, in the north of Italy, Piero Leone has been settled for a long time in a town in Tuscany, closer to the center of the “boot”. “Both Italians, especially those from the south, and Moldovans like to spend time and party in big companies. Up north, we’re maybe a little cooler, more dynamic, more business-oriented. Either way, Moldovans practically find themselves in both trends”, said the Italian.

In any case, Piero Leone believes that Moldovans are closer to the West than to the East mentality-wise. “Of course, the youth to a greater extent, because those of a certain age are more conservative and nostalgic for the past. But I am convinced that you will become part of the European Union, because you fit more into the European mentality”, he declared.

Piero Leone wanted to emphasize in this context how important it is for the Moldovan authorities to find policies and mechanisms to keep the youth in the country. “Including in agriculture. Because agriculture is the engine of any economy, and a state with a strong agriculture will never be in great difficulty. It is known that the youth are not too attracted to some areas of the economy, but it is important to propose policies to preserve the labor force and the intellectual potential of young people”, concluded the Italian businessman.

An engineer by training and formerly a marine boatbuilder, Piero Leone is a trader interested in agricultural products from Moldova. See the interview with Piero Leone here.
