How people consider political crisis in Chisinau can be overcome

An opinion poll made public on June 14 shows 35% of the respondents think the political crisis in Moldova can be overcome by liberating the state institutions from the former government so that the new administration could work. Another 24% of those surveyed said negotiations should be held by the Democratic Parry, the Party of Socialists and the Bloc ACUM. The survey was presented in a news conference at IPN by the sociological company Date Inteligente SRL (iData).

The company’s executive director Mihai Bologan said 22% of those polled consider the political crisis can be overcome by holding snap elections, while 19% said the response of the Venice Commission should be awaited.

The poll shows 47% of those interviewed believe the Government led by the president of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu is legitimate, 18% think the Cabinet headed by Pavel Filip of the Democratic Party is legitimate, while 35% consider none of the Governments is legitimate.

The appointment of the Socialist leader Zinaida Grechanyi as Speaker of Parliament is welcomed by 62% of those surveyed, while 38% said this nomination is unfavorable. Asked about the naming of Maia Sandu as Prime Minister,  61% of those questioned said this is unfavorable, while 39% said this is favorable. Some 64% of the respondents said the formation of an alliance between ACUM and the PSRM is favorable, while 36% said the opposite.

The fact that Parliament held sittings was welcomed by 72% of those interviewed, while 28% said they are against the sittings. 68% of the respondents said they disagree with the Constitutional Court’s rulings by which the Parliament’s activity was declared illegal, while 32% approved of the Court’s decisions.

If snap parliamentary elections are held, 25.4% of those surveyed would vote for the PSRM, 13.9% for the PAS, 7.2% for the PDM, 5.2% for the PPPDA and 4% for the Shor Party.

As regards the people’s trust in politicians, Mihai Bologan said President Igor Dodon remains the most trusted political figure as in the previous polls. The second spot is taken by Maia Sandu, the third by Pavel Filip, the fourth by the PPPDA leader Andrei Năstase and the fifth by the Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc.

The poll was carried out by phone or face-to-face during June 12-13 and covered a sample of 720 persons from 82 communities.
