Housing in Moldova is unaffordable, homebuilders say

The crisis in the construction industry in Moldova is caused by a shortage of funds and the unprofessionalism of some construction businesses, says Ruslan Barladeanu, chair of the “Housing for Everybody” Company’s board. “Some construction firms do not have the money to build a block of flats from bottom to top. So these firms resort to selling some of the apartments while the building is still under construction, leaving the other flats unsold. This is why they often have disagreements with their clients”, said Barladeanu in an interview to ECO newspaper. Barladeanu believes that the situation will change when the small firms leave the market, allowing 5 or 6 strong companies to continue. According to Barladeanu, home prices are now way too far from being affordable. In his opinion, affordability supposes the chance for common people to buy an apartment for a fixed sum from his monthly earnings throughout a longer period of time.
