About ten house yards and one house were inundated after the lake situated near Comrat town flooded into the Ialpug River, IPN reports.
Rescuers and firefighters of Comrat municipality have worked according to a special program starting with last Saturday in order to prevent the flooding of particular areas near Comrat. When a local lake located at the periphery of the municipality filled with water, this started to flow into the Ialpug.
The level of water in the lake began to increase as a result of snow melting following the higher temperatures during the last few days. Teams of firemen built up levees with sacks of sand on a number of streets of Comrat in order to protect the homes.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, nine yards were inundated, while one house was flooded. A number of 25 rescuers and firemen worked at night to prevent emergencies and alleviate the consequences, using 12 units of equipment. The level of water is now decreasing.
The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service continues to monitor the situation and will intervene to prevent risks, if necessary.
