“House without dangers for your child!” campaign to start
A number of government institutions and international organizations are launching the campaign “House without dangers for your child!”, which is aimed at increasing parents’ awareness of the risk of home accidents, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the Health Ministry’s National Health Management Center, about 100 children need medical assistance daily following household accidents. The 33,000 home accidents that happened last year involved children aged between o and 18. In 2011, by six children younger than five daily received medical care as a result of traumas and poisoning. Sixty-two children under five died from these causes last year.
Most often the children suffer when the adults leave the cup with hot tea or coffee on the edge of the table, cook or iron with the child in the arms, leave pills or acetone within children’s reach, tell the children that the pills are candies, give the child drugs on the recommendation of the relatives or druggist without consulting the doctor, leave the kids in the care of elder children, etc.
The campaign is intended for the over 200,000 families with children aged 0-5. It is supported by the Health Ministry, the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of the Interior, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and a mobile phone carrier.
