Hotlines designed for fighting corruption

The General Division of Education, Youth and Sport of the Chisinau Municipal Council set up hotlines that can be used by parents to report cases of passive corruption or bribery in schools, Info-Prim Neo reports. The confidential hotlines are available at the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport (20-16-08, 20-16-30), and at the Division’s offices in the districts of Chisinau (Botanica – 76-15-36, Buiucani – 23-28-10, Centru – 27-17-03, Ciocana – 33-11-34, Rascani – 44-43-39), on workdays from 8.00 to 17.00. Public parents’ associations now work in practically all the 145 pre-university education institutions in Chisinau. But only 82 of them have registered with the relevant state institutions: 52 – with the Chisinau City Hall, 23 – with the Ministry of Justice, 7 – with the suburban mayors’ offices of Chisinau. As a rule, the basic principles of the public associations – the voluntary character and transparency – are violated when the associations are not registered officially, officials of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport said. “If the parents had not provided support though the agency of the associations, the schools would have faced much more problems in the present conditions,” said Anatol Ivanu, the head of the Division’s local office in Botanica. The money offered by the parents goes to carry out repair work, purchase methodological literate, teaching aids and other things needed in the education process.
