A hotbed of African swine fever was confirmed in a private farm in Palanca village of Stefan Voda district, IPN reports.
The National Food Safety Agency imposed animal movement restrictions and notified the competent bodies of Moldova and the EU and other foreign partners about the appearance of the hotbed.
African swine fever is not dangerous to humans, but spreads swiftly among animals and causes considerable damage to agriculture. If the presence of the virus if confirmed, the animals are slaughtered and the pigsty and the areas around are disinfected.
The previous case of African swine fever on Moldova’s territory was confirmed in a private farm in Ursoaia village of Causeni district in March.
The National Food Safety Agency requests pig owners to urgently inform the local bodies about cases of animal disease or death or if they discover bodes of wild boars.
