The hospitals in Chisinau are preparing for possible disconnections of the power supply. They will check the generators and, where necessary, coordinate the switch to another type of fuel.
"Starting tomorrow, we will order all hospitals to check the functionality of electric generators so that, if it is necessary to use alternative electricity resources, we will be prepared," the deputy head of the General Medical and Social Assistance Division Vladimir Bolocan said in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services, IPN reports.
The Republic of Moldova can experience power outages if the Moldovan Thermoelectric Plant (Kuchurgan) in the Transnistrian region, from which the largest purchases are made, will run out of gas at the end of this year, when the contract for the transit of Russian gas via Ukraine expires. Prime Minister Dorin Recean does not rule out possible disconnections of the power supply, but says that they will be measured in hours, not in weeks or months.
