Horus Energy completes capital repair of Energy Block No. 3 of Termoelectrica

The company Horus Energy announced the completion of the works to extensively repair Energy Block No. 3 of SA Termoelectrica. The repair works included the renovation of the block’s turbine and generator. Representatives of the company said that owing to these works, Chisinau City will be supplied with heat and electric energy in the amount that is produced by Termoelectrica. The company, which is the main cogeneration source in the country, will start the heating season with two functional blocks – Energy Block No. 1 that was modernized in 2019 and Energy Block No. 3 that was extensively repaired in summer.

“The works started in summer and advanced swiftly. We worked even in two shifts so as to be able to finish the works on time and they were completed in accordance with the document signed by us and Termoelectrica,” Mihai Godea, director for development of the group of companies Horus, stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.

“There is an energy crisis in the Republic of Moldova and I think the fact that the main cogeneration company starts the heating season prepared is an occasion for satisfaction for everyone - for us, those who effectively contributed to this, and for the end users who will have heat energy in their homes, especially the residents of the municipality of Chisinau,” said Mihai Godea.

According to him, the current season Termoelectrica will work based on alternative fuel – crude oil. This fact has two facets. The good point is that about 20 million lei will be saved on fuel as crude oil is cheaper and has higher efficiency. But there is a probability that problems will appear at the end of the heating season as the use of crude oil in the burning process can affect the burning areas in the Energy Block. Repair works will be probably necessary on the burning areas in spring. “The works we executed on Energy Block No. 3 were of a high quality and met all the technical norms but such problems can appear only when crude oil is used,” stated Mihai Godea.

Mihail Pasecinic, technical director of Horus Energy, said the turbine and the electric generator of Energy Block No. 3 were extensively repaired. “In the working process, the high and low pressure cylinders were dismantled and diagnosed. The stator and rotor of the electric generator were also technically diagnosed. After the turbine was fully disassembled, works were performed to prepare for checking the metal, high pressure cylinders and relevant pipes. Besides, a series of works were executed for assembling, transporting and balancing the rotor, which was a premiere for Source 1 of SA Termoelectrica,” explained Mihail Pasecinic.

According to him, the turbine’s rotors were extensively repaired. Works were performed to increase the efficiency of the turbine and to meet the initially projected parameters. “Capital repair works were carried out on the steam distribution system, oiling system, lubrication system, hydrogen gaskets, which were replaced with new ones and were modernized,” said the technical director of Horus Energy. After heat energy starts to be produced, the generator will be subject to technical examinations.
