Dorin Chirtoaca requested the Social Assistance Division to identify places where the homeless persons wandering on the streets of Chisinau may be accommodated in winter so as to avoid cases of hypothermia and death from cold involving such persons, Info-Prim Neo reports. The mayor said that a solution is to lodge them at the Housing Center located on Haltei St. If there are not enough free places, the Social Assistance Division should find other accommodation. The Housing Center’s head Iurie Ursu said the institution does not have clothes for the homeless persons who live there on a temporary basis. Besides, not all those who are lodged at the Center comply with its program and rules and choose to go back to the street. According to Dorin Chirtoaca, the administration of the Housing Center should learn from the experience of other states. “You should know that there are different persons with different characters and must find ways of convincing them to stray there, especially in winter,” he said. The Housing Center now accommodates 48 homeless persons. There are 22 available places.
