Holocaust victims will be officially commemorated in Moldova

The Memorial Day for the Victims of the Holocaust will be celebrated in Moldova on January 27. A decision to this effect was passed by Parliament in its November 26 sitting, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, which drafted the decision, said the Holocaust was one of the most terrible genocides in the history of mankind, which endangered the existence of a number of peoples, including Jews and Romanies.

In the afternoon of January 27, 1945, the survivors of the Auschwitz camp were set free by the Soviet troops. The UN General Assembly declared January 27 the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust. On this day, the people all over the world commemorate the 6 million Jews and people of other nationalities who died in concentration camps and ghettoes.
