Holocaust and Soviet occupation museums in Chisinau
Two museums could be opened in Chisinau – one dedicated to the Holocaust and the other one dedicated to the Soviet occupation, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Chisinau City Hall. The initiative was put forward by Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca and will be discussed at the July 5 meeting of the City Hall.
The communique says the creation of the museums is dictated by the crimes committed by the two totalitarian regimes: fascist and Communist, following the agreement reached by the fascists and the Communists in 1939 (the Hitler – Stalin Pact), including its consequences for Europe, for Bessarabia, and given the necessity of knowing the historical truth, especially by the new generations.
Such museums exist in many towns in Europe and all over the world - in Poland (Auschwitz-Birkenau), Germany (Berlin, Leipzig), Israel (Jerusalem), Latvia (Riga) etc. The Soviet occupation museum in Riga is located 50 meters from the City Hall.
