The mayor of Holercani village of Dubasari district was sentenced to six years and two months in jail for misuse of power and causing of damage of over 600,000 lei to the state budget. The local council’s secretary was fined 6,000 lei for using forged official documents, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2010, in the absence of a decision of the local council, the mayor signed a contract to lease out a publicly owned plot of 22 hectares, situated near Holercani, with an economic entity. The rental was set with violations of the legislation.
On another count, the mayor was accused of falsifying a 2008 decision of the Holercani Council in concert with the council’s secretary. The modified decision allowed auctioning about 40 hectares of publicly owned land. Afterward, using the false decision, the mayor signed three sale-purchase contracts for this land with an economic entity.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
