Holding of ECT presidency opens new prospects for Moldova

Moldova's priorities during the holding of the presidency of the European Energy Community this year include first of all the development of a unitary framework for the member countries which will allow for the attraction of investments and modernization of the energy infrastructure, stated Vadim Ceban, department head at the Ministry of Economy. Other priorities are related to the development of a system that seeks to effectively combine various energy sources, including renewable ones. Vadim Ceban said that in the course of this year Chisinau will host a number of meetings and conventions to address various energy issues and prospects for the production of energy from renewable sources. “Our specialists will have the opportunity to exchange opinions with their colleagues from other countries and propose projects. Meanwhile, Georgia, Turkey and Norway are expected to join the ECT; currently they have an observer status. Ukraine has already joined, being a fully-fledged member from February 1, so there are possibilities to improve cooperation in this filed at a bilateral level. In general, by holding the chairmanship of this organization, Moldova can enhance its visibility on the European energy market”, said Vadim Ceban. The European Energy Community, also referred as the Energy Community of South East Europe, is a community established in 2005 between the European Union and a number of third countries in order to extend the EU internal energy market to South East Europe and beyond. Moldova joined on 18 December 2009.
