History of Romanians will be optional textbook
The textbook for history in public schools will be simply called the History Book, announced Minister of Education Mihail Sleahtitchi.
He said that the title had been agreed in the 2010 Concept of historical education in Moldova.
“This concept obliges us to respect European standards and the opinion of international bodies about the name of the history book”, explained Sleahtitchi.
According to him, the course will be based on three sections: history of the world (50%), national history (46%) and regional and local history of the community where the schools are situated.
This year, a contest will be announced for history textbooks for the 5th, 10th and 12th grades.
“The other books, including the History of Romanians will come as an optional material that can be recommended by history teachers in certain situations. We gladly accept any new book in Moldova that can serve as an additional source of information for pupils. I reiterate however that the History Book will be the main book of study in secondary education and the history course will be based on it. Other books will have a complementary, optional role”, added the Minister.
