Historical monument close to being demolished
A new attempt to illegally pull down a building in the historical center of Chisinau was made this afternoon. It is a house built at the start of the 1920s, which is located on Petru Movila St. The building was included in the Register of Chisinau Architectural Monuments of Local Importance.
Ion Stefanita, director of the Monument Inspection and Restoration Agency, has told Info-Prim Neo that he was informed about this case by a member of the young wing of the Civic Group for the Protection of Chisinau‘s Historical Center.
The workers and chief of the building site could not provide explanations for the intention to demolish the building. “We checked the documents and established that neither the City Hall nor the Ministry of Culture issued a demolition authorization,” Ion Stefanita said. Thus, the works were stopped.
Since 2006, the company that owns the building located at 27 Petru Movila St has asked for a demolition authorization from the Chisinau City Hall, but its application was rejected every time.
Earlier, Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca requested the police to arrest all those who try to pull down buildings that are considered monuments of local or national importance. The Register of Architectural Monuments of Local Importance complied by the Chisinau administration is to be approved by the City Council.
