Historical debts for gas to be rescheduled

SA Moldovagaz formulated a number of proposals for rescheduling the historical debts for the gas supplied by Russia's gas giant Gazprom, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the company's president Alexandr Gusev. “We discussed debt rescheduling schemes during the meeting of the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation, but the situation is rather complicated as the proposals must be accepted by the Ministry of Finance and the Government of Moldova and by Gazprom,” Gusev said, stressing he would give more details after one of the rescheduling schemes was accepted. He reiterated that Moldova's historical debts for Russian gas total US$350 million together with penalties and US$2.3 billion together with Transnistria's debt. Gusev said they did not discuss the possibility of dividing these historical debts, for the districts located on the right bank of the Nistru and for those situated on the left bank, with Gazprom officials. “Such an issue cannot be raised as the five-year-agreement signed with Gazprom in 2006 does not provide for such a division. However, it is important that SA Moldovagaz work out a rescheduling plan for the debts of US$350 million collected by the consumers from the left bank of the Nistru and present it to Gazprom,” he said. Gusev also said that the debt for December last year accumulated by the consumers living on the right bank of the Nistru came to about US$50 million. “We asked that the payment of this debt be also rescheduled given the consequences of the world financial crisis, but it will be probably impossible and we will have to pay this sum in the first half of this year,” he added.
