Approximately 170,000 public sector employees and 50,000 healthcare workers will benefit from salary increases of 7% to 9%, starting next year. These increases, included in the 2025 state budget bill approved by Parliament in the second reading, cover police officers, rescuers, and specialists from the National Probation Inspectorate and the National Penitentiary Administration, IPN reports.
Teachers with teaching degrees will also see salary increases, with holders of the highest teaching degree receiving the largest raise of up to 2,016 lei.
The share of state budget expenditures allocated to education is 23%, amounting to nearly 20 billion lei. Over 205 million lei will be allocated for free meals for students in grades V–IX in educational institutions starting September 1, 2025. Additionally, 147 million lei is designated for school buses, computers, and furniture for 20 model schools across the country.
State budget revenues for next year are projected at 71.55 billion lei, a 6.8% increase compared to the 2024 revenue projections. Authorities describe the budget as one of solidarity and social support, with the revenue growth attributed to economic recovery and the impact of improved fiscal, customs, and revenue administration policies.
Expenditures for 2025 are forecast at 85.44 billion lei, 4.1% higher than the previous year. Capital investments will grow by 18%, as 12 new projects are set to begin.
The 2025 state budget is expected to end with a deficit of 13.89 billion lei, representing 4.1% of GDP.
