The monthly allowance intended for victims of political repression was raised by 400 lei and will be 500 lei as of September 1 this year, IPN reports, quoting a Government decision.

Higher allowances will be paid to victims of the political repression of 1917 –1990. The persons who form part of several categories of beneficiates will be paid one allowance, of their choice.

The allowance was raised in a move to ensure additional protection for the 8,452 rehabilitated victims of political repression. The allowance for these hasn’t been raised since 2012.

A sum of 12.9 million lei is needed for implementing the proposed amendments in 2018.
