The strong winds of the night of March 23 damaged electric power lines in a number of settlements. Owing to the glazed frost, many vehicles skidded off the road. Diana Turcan, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told IPN that according to the most recent information available at 8.00, 65 settlements in 18 districts were disconnected from the power supply. The district of Leova and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia were the worst affected.
In the municipality of Balti, the high winds downed a tree, which damaged a balcony from the fifth floor when falling. It fell on electric power cables and left four apartment buildings without power.
A number of streets in the country are covered with glazed frost. Many cars skidded into ditches. Rescuers unblocked three trucks that got stuck in Ungheni, Ocnita and Briceni districts.
