High water level on streets of Chisinau prevents trolleybuses from traveling

Owing to the high level of water on some street sectors in Chisinau, a number of trolleybuses stopped moving in the evening of June 28. The passengers had to continue their way on foot. Some expressed their dissatisfaction as they paid the fare, but didn’t reach the destination and they didn’t get a refund.

Contacted by IPN, head of the circulation service of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company Mariana Palai said the drivers are obliged to stop the unit of transport if the level of water exceeds 10-12 cm. After the rain that fell in the evening of June 28, the level of water on some portions of Mesterul Manole St rose to 40 cm, while on Muncesti St reached 50 cm. On Hancesti St and Ion Creanga St, the level of water was so high that the water got into trolleybuses.

“The electrics and engines are located on the lower part of the trolleybus. If water gets in there, a short circuit can be caused. We must prevent such cases,” explained Mariana Palai. She added that the passengers can wait in the trolleybus until the water retreats or can choose another unit of transport .

Weather forecasters said there will be heavy rain with thunder and lightning until June 30.
