High water expected on Prut River

Water levels on the River Prut have risen by up to 2 meters following heavy rainfall in recent days and are expected to peak today, June 30, on the segment between Criva and Costesti, Elina Plesca of the State Weather Service has told Info-Prim Neo. However, this rise in Prut's level does not pose any threat, except for minor flooding in low level areas along the river, said Elina Plesca. Prime Minister Vlad Filat instructed the Water Agency and the Civil Protection Service to urgently inspect, together with the local authorities, the condition of dams and barriers and take precautionary measures to avoid damages in case of floods. Additionally, Vlad Filat requested the Agriculture Minisry to carry out a thorough assessment of the damages caused by the bad weather lately. The Weather Service issued a yellow-code advisory for high water near Criva village and Costesti town in the period June 29 through July 3.
