High school students will pay higher rental for new textbooks

A number of book titles will be renewed this year in Moldova’s schools and lyceums. According to the director of the Special Fund for Textbooks Gheorghe Garnet, the high school students will pay higher rental for the new textbooks compared with the previous years because the rental is set depending on the year when the textbooks are used and on their wear degree. In time the rental decreases. The first-ninth graders will get textbooks free, IPN reports.

During the 2017-2018 academic year, there will be reedited and reprinted a number of textbooks, such as the Romanian Language and Literature for the fourth-sixth grades, Musical Education for the fourth grade, Universal Literature for the tenth-eleventh grades, Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology for the twelfth grade, etc.

The rental for the required set of textbooks for 2017-2018 for lyceum students will be 2.60 lei for Civic Education and 16.70 lei for the Romanian Language, depending on the wear degree. If the textbook is damaged or lost, the students will pay 26 to 93.37 lei for its replacement.

The textbooks in lyceum and secondary education are used for five years, while in primary education for four years. The rental for each textbook is set by the Special Fund for Textbooks and is approved by the Ministry of Education in accordance with the Government Decision No. 876 of December 22, 2015, concerning the provision of students with textbooks.
