More than a half of the students of the schools of the municipality of Chisinau got marks of 8, 9 and 10 at the Baccalaureate exams this year. School inspectors think that the students got such high marks because they copied, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Many of the assessed works contained identical mistakes as for instance letters instead of numbers in mathematical formulas. This means that the texts have been copied from the messages received on the mobile phone,” the head of the School Inspection Division of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport of Chisinau, Tatiana Mistreanu said at a meeting with education institution directors. Mistreanu said that this is first of all a proof of the managerial inconsistency of the institution heads that don’t pay attention to the phenomenon. “We must exclude the help from outside and allow the students to assess their knowledge themselves,” the quoted source said. Asked to comment on the situation, a number of school directors said that they did not meet with such cases, but the large number of marks of 8, 9 and 10 leaves space for reflection. “The new technologies are also to blame as they tempt the children to use them, but those that possess knowledge use it and don’t resort to copying,” said the head of the Theoretical Lyceum of Arts “Nicolae Sulac”, Ludmila Ciobanu. The school directors could not say what goals are pursued by the teachers that tolerate such a phenomenon, assuming that they probably want to help the students that are not so well prepared. Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said that the situation must be changed because the image of the students and teachers is damaged. She urged the directors attending the conference to take measures because the children are the ones that will suffer the consequences in time.
