Heavy rain fell on Saturday morning in a number of localities in the country. In Hănăseni village of Cantemir district, a family with a newborn tried to take refuge from the rainwaters by a car, but got stuck in the mud. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that rescuers had to intervene as the level of water was rising quickly and could endanger their lives, IPN reports.
The call to the 112 Service was made close to 04:00 a.m., after the family tried to leave their home with the vehicle. At the scene, firefighters of the Iargara Rescue Station towed away the vehicle. The four people were taken to the rescue station and were able to continue their way after the rain subsided.
Rescuers were also called out in Gotești, Cania and Țiganca to help five families in difficulty. The water entered their yards and pumping works were necessary. No victims were reported.
Rescuers urge the citizens to follow the weather forecasts, not to drive in torrential rain and to supervise minors. In situations of risk, they should call the 112 Service for help.
