Farmers are unable to crop the early peas owing to the abundant rain. Nicanor Buzovoi, chairman of the Association of Grain Producers, has told IPN that he sowed peas on several hectares and they now grow overripe because he cannot harvest them in time owing to the rain.
“The rain is beneficial to most of the crops, but the peas suffer. Last year, the harvest was low because there was drought, while this year there is too much rain. The early sorts become overripe and will be unsuitable for canning,” said Nicanor Buzovoi. He voiced hope that the weather will stabilize and they will be able to harvest the peas.
According to Nicanor Buzovoi, the general situation is better in the central and southern parts of the country, while northern Moldova was affected by the lack of precipitation in the middle of spring.
The rain that lasted for several weeks is forecast to stop on Sunday, when the weather will grow warmer.
