The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection is coordinating the possibility of delivering COVID-19 vaccines for 20% of Moldova’s population with the World Health Organization and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization. Also, the World Bank is ready to finance the states for acquiring COVID-19 vaccines, the Government’s press service informed after the meeting of the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission.
Prime Minister Ion Chicu said he asked the Prime Ministers of Latvia and Lithuania to allot a part of the vaccines they will get from the EU to Moldova. “I will also discuss with my counterpart from Hungary, with colleagues from Romania and the Russian Federation for vaccines to be also provided to the Republic of Moldova, when all the testing and approval stages are over,” he stated.
According to Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu, 102,800 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Moldova so far. Over 10,800 cases are active ones. About 3,400 infected persons are hospitalized. 253 persons are in intensive care and 52 of them were put on a ventilator. The hospitals in the municipality of Chisinau are 90% full, while in districts – 85%. In a week, they will activate one more hospital in Chisinau for treating persons with COVID-19, with the capacity of 260 places.
