The daily COVID-19 death figures do not show the current situation. The reporting process is complex and involves many players. Errors or delays caused by technical or human factors are possible, including overtired medical personnel, Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco said, explaining the inconsistencies in the daily death reports identified by the Ministry’s inspection team, IPN reports.
The minister told a news conference that owing to the pressure exerted on the medical system, some of the doctors didn’t report the cases of death on time and these were included in the national report only in several days, sometimes several weeks or months. There are even cases identified at a distance of a year.
The figures on the Ministry’s website actually never included the deaths that occurred during the last 24 hours. The figures showed the cases included that day in the national reporting system. For example, only 15 of the 70 deaths reported on November 11 occurred during the last 24 hours. Other deaths recorded on November 11 can be reported later.
To correct the reporting situation, the Ministry issued an order and all the persons responsible for the collection of data in medical institutors will be trained to fill out informative notes concerning deaths, how to transmit and validate the statistical data. The method of reporting on the Ministry’s website will be changed so that the date of death is indicated there. The data about all the cases of death since the first day of the pandemic will be supplemented.
Secretary of state Svetlana Nicolăescu said that the cases of death since the start of the vaccination campaign have been analyzed based on the vaccine status – vaccinated or unvaccinated. Of all the COVID-19 deaths recorded after March, 8% involved vaccinated persons, but it is not known how many persons of these had fake vaccine certificates.
In another development, the head of the National Public Health Agency Nicolae Jelamschi said the equipment for outfitting the laboratory that performs tests for detecting the Delta variant was installed and this is to be calibrated. Testing is done to see if the tests performed in the country correspond to those performed at foreign labs. The personnel are being trained. The equipment will be officially transmitted to the Agency next Monday and the tests will start to be done in two weeks.
