Heat makes doctors’ work more difficult
The number of persons seeking medical assistance during hot weather rises. A large part of the calls to the Municipal Emergency Medical Assistance Station are made from Chisinau markets. The persons ignore the recommendations of the doctors and go shopping in the hottest period of the day, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Ieronim Ciumas, the medical institution’s vice director, considers that a specialized medical center that would provide assistance in case of sunstroke and other problems caused by the heat should be set up at least in the Central Market.
Veaceslav Tinica, hygienist doctor at the municipal enterprise “Central Market”, has told
Info-Prim Neo that the market’s administration has opened seven first aid points.
“Employees of the enterprise that attended special courses work at these medical points. The visitors of the market are informed about them over loudspeakers. Flags with red crosses were placed at the entrance to every point,” Veaceslav Tinica said.
According to the hygienist doctor, the first aid points were set up under ordinances issued by the Chisinau City Hall and the Ministry of Health and form part of the plans of action during hot weather.
“The ambulances enter the Central Market if we do not manage to provide first aid when the number of patients is too high. We coordinate our actions with the Municipal Emergency Medical Assistance Station,” Tinica added.
Most of the victims of the heat are buyers, mainly pensioners. The sellers ask for help seldom.
Forty-five commercial markets work in the municipality of Chisinau at present. Doctors recommend avoiding the sunlight between 11.00 and 16.00 and drinking more than 1.5 liters of water a day.
