Heat causes troubles to Chisinau water supplier

The water supplier SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) is on maximal alert during the hot days. The 50% rise in water consumption in this period causes up to 60-70 accidents on the aqueducts every day. Some 10-15% of the accidents occur on the water mains that are over 500 mm in diameter. The increase in the volume of water supplied has as result the rise in pressure in pipes and this endangers the entire water supply system of the capital city, which is 70% worn out, the director general of the company Constantin Becciev said at the Monday’s meeting of the Chisinau City Hall. According to Becciev, the supplies have increased to individual consumers only. Therefore, the losses of the company are enormous because the tariff for the population is three times lower than the average tariff calculated by the National Agency for Energy Regulation. Experiencing a difficult economic-financial situation, the company lacks spare parts, gasoline and lubricants. As a result, 50% of the company’s vehicles and equipment do not work and cannot be used to fix the damages. Only a real tariff would enable the company to invest in restoring the water pipes, says the ACC head. If the Chisinau Municipal Council does not approve increased water charges in the near future and does not even up the tariffs for both types of consumers, action initiated on February 1, SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” will face a catastrophe, Constantin Becciev said quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
