Hearings on national security to be held behind closed doors

Parliament will question the administration of the police and of the Reintegration Office on national security on March 21. Liberal-Democratic MP Valeriu Strelet, who put forward such an initiative, said the regional developments of the last week show hearings must be obligatorily held to assess national security, IPN reports.

Democratic lawmaker Dumitru Diacov said there is a danger that events similar to those in Ukraine will take place in Moldova. He reiterated that national cohesion and peace are needed.

The leader of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin accused the government of stirring things up and asked that the hearings be held with the open doors. “You are afraid of the people because you are sinful. We want open debates, attended by journalists. Or we can go out, in the Great National Assembly Square,” he stated.

The hearings on March 21 will take place in the second part of the Parliament’s sitting.
