The hearing in the case of former Prime Minister Vlad Filat, scheduled for January 28, was postponed. According to prosecutor Adriana Betisor, the defense asked for the postponement, invoking health reasons, IPN reports.
Adriana Betisor said the reasons invoked by the lawyers are excusable and therefore the hearing was put off until February 2.
The case of Vlad Filat was sent to court on December 23, 2015. The ex-Premier is accused of taking 800 million lei bribe. Two days ago, Filat’s lawyers asked that the charges and case should be dropped, but the request was rejected by the judges. The examination of the essence of the case was to start today.
Vlad Filat was arrested on charges of influence peddling and passive corruption last October. He faces 7 to 15 years in jail and ban on holding public posts.
