After the hearing in the case of the former president of the Administration Board of Banca de Economii, Ilan Shor, mayor of Orhei town, was put off a month ago, the hearing scheduled for January 21 was postponed until February 20.
Press officer of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Anastasia Mihălceanu has told IPN that the hearing set for today was put off because the financial-accounting examination ordered earlier by the court hasn’t been completed. The court said it will demand to hasten the given examination.
Supporters of Ilan Shor gathered together in front of the Cahul Appeals Court. They chanted: “Ilan, we are near you!”. Ilan Shor said he came to court to prove his innocence.
The Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court on June 21, 2017 senetnced the current mayor of Orhei to seven years and a half in jail for causing considerable damage to the state by swindle and abuse of trust. The same day, Ilan Shor was released from house arrest and will be under judicial control until a definitive sentence is given to him.
The sentence of the first court was appealed by the prosecution and the defense and by the representative of SA Banca de Economii. The case reached the Chisinau Appeals Court in only six months and in February 2018 was transferred to the Cahul Appeals Court.
Ilan Shor heads the Shor Party’s list of candidates for MP in the national constituency for the February 24 parliamentary elections. He also runs in single-member constituency No. 18 Orhei.
