The hearing in the case of the former president of the Administration Board of Banca de Economii Ilan Shor, mayor of Orhei, which was to take place on August 20, was put off. A new hearing at the Cahul Appeals Court was scheduled for August 24, 11am.
Contacted by IPN, Iulian Balan, one of the lawyers for Ilan Shor, said the hearing was postponed for reasons related to his client’s health. The witnesses in this case were to be examined today.
The Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court on June 21, 2017 passed a judgement by which the current mayor of Orhei was sentenced to seven years and a half in jail for causing damage to the state by swindle and abuse of power. The sentence was appealed by the prosecution and the defense and by the representative of SA Banca de Economii. Ilan Shor was released from house arrest and will be under judicial control until a definitive sentence is given to him.
The case reached the Chisinau Appeals Court in only six months given that this had to be translated from Romanian into Russian, as it was invoked. Three hearings in the case were held since February 13, 2018, when the case was transferred to and registered at the Cahul Appeals Court. The last was held on August 8.
