During about a month, the civil society will be able to take part in public discussions on the framework ethics code of the medical and pharmaceutical workers. The draft code was approved by a group of experts on September 5 and is to be published on the portal of the Ministry of Health by September 7. According to officials of the Ministry, the code will be a basic document that will contain the codes specialized in medicine. The formulation of the code forms part of a number of activities designed to prevent and combat corruption in the area of health protection, stipulated in Moldova’s Threshold Country Plan under the US Millennium Challenge Programme. The group of experts that are working out the code of ethics is composed of representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Justice, the National Health Insurance Company and of secondary, higher and post-university health education establishments. NGOs, employers’ organizations, the Ethics Committee of Moldova and Moldova’s representative to the European Bioethics Committee have been also involved in the drafting of the document. The draft code of ethics will be placed on the webpage of the Ministry of Health (www.ms.gov.md) for public debates. It will be there until October. Afterwards, the document will be approved by the Ministry of Health.
