Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan instructed the local public health centers to check if all the schools and kindergartens of the country implement the Ministry’s recommendations concerning the new menus. Following reports that not all the education institutions have money for the new menus, the minister noted the importance of identifying the necessary financial resources and asked the directors of public health centers to stage working meetings with representatives of the local public authorities and specialist institutions so as to do additional calculations and to formulate amendments to the state budget law for 2017, IPN reports.

“The calculations done by the Ministry of Health show that a standard model of menu is of about 18 lei, while the value of the new menus is 19-21 lei. It is not about the doubling of budgets. That’s why I want you to verify these figures once again and to ensure insistent inspections to see how the menus are implemented. We speak about the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, the growth and education of a new generation of children who choose an apple instead of candies. It is our duty to start this process now, this year,” Ruxanda Glavan stated in a meeting held at the Ministry.

The Ministry of Health’s recommendations about a healthy food regime and appropriate physical effort in the education institutions of Moldova were published in the Official Gazette on September 12 this year.
