Health minister about increase in number of COVID-19 cases

The higher number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the Republic of Moldova in the recent past, of over 1,000 cases a day, is due to the fact that more rapid tests are done at present, even in ambulances, said Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco. Answering journalists’ questions, the minister said the number of tests rose from 7,000 to 10,000 daily. It is important that the health system cope with the situation and that the patients in a medium grave and grave state be hospitalized. If need be, more beds for treating patients with COVID-19 will be made available, IPN reports.

According to Ala Nemerenco, the Ministry of Health hasn’t yet drafted a decision on the immunization of children against COVID-19, but discussions on the issue are held. If a decision is taken, a vaccine will be administered only if the parents agree.

The risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 among medical personnel is very big and vaccination is therefore important, while the health workers with contraindications should not work in the frontline.

As to the vaccination marathons, Ala Nemerenco said these are no longer staged as the population participation rate at these was very low, but the incurred costs are high. Immunization is now stimulated in small communities.

No other restrictions will be imposed for now in the hospitality industry, noted the official.

According to statistics, 21% of Moldova’s population got vaccinated against COVID-19. The real number of Moldovans who got a vaccine is higher as a part of them were immunized outside the county, as Ala Nemerenco stated.
