Head of state to be elected on October 23
The vote to elect the President of Moldova will take place on October 23. A relevant decision was made by the MPs at Wednesday's sitting, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The post of head of state was declared vacant on September 11, 2009 after President Vladimir Voronin tendered his resignation.
The president of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu is the Alliance for European Integration's candidate for the presidency. The Alliance has 53 seats of MP. The parliamentary group of the Communists Party, which consists of 48 members, repeatedly said they would not vote in favor of the Alliance's candidates.
The President of Moldova is elected by 61 votes.
