President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin suggests formulating a strategy for sustainable agricultural development by using the experience of the European Union member states in working out such documents. At a meeting in the presidential office on July 30, the head of state stressed the necessity of taking decisive steps to overcome the consequences of this year’s severe drought and ensure the sustainable development of the agroindustrial sector. The meeting participants emphasised the importance of employing European agrarian practices, of improving the marketing of agricultural products, of consolidating the farmsteads and extending the irrigated areas, etc. Vladimir Voronin also proposed setting up, in the near future, a state commission that would organise and monitor the drafting of the mentioned strategy. The President considers that the respective document should be based on the strategies and documents existing in different areas, including the National Programme “Moldovan Village”.
